All logistics are in place for the 2023 Public Enterprises Sports Games, which will kick off on Thursday and end on 3 June in Reitfontein, Otjozondjupa region.

Chairperson of the Public Enterprises CEOs Forum AGM and Sports Games Albert Khevare told New Era Sport the games, which have been in existence since 2015, are a way of incorporating workers from various state-owned enterprises into the CEO’s Annual General Meeting.

“The CEOs of various public enterprises meet annually to discuss matters of mutual interests. They introduced these games as a way of encouraging sports participation by the employees,” he explained.

Khevare added that they are expecting 35 enterprises with over 1 500 participants in eight sporting codes, namely football, netball, tug of war, 4x100 metres for men and women, darts, 10-kilometre run and volleyball.

Darts and the 10-kilometre run were introduced this year.

Khevare said while there are no monetary rewards for the winners, the games are mainly for pride and there will be medals and trophies for the top-performing athletes and institutions.

Khevare called on residents of the Otjozondjupa region to come in numbers and witness various public enterprises workers engage in a competitive sporting spirit.
