Angolan national allegedly killed by lover

Josephina Mwashindange

ONIIYAGAYA - An Angolan woman was beaten and her ankle cut with an unknown object, leading to her death early on Saturday at Oniiyagaya village in the Omuthiya district of the Oshikoto region.

The 20-year-old deceased and the suspect are both Angolan nationals, were in a relationship, and were domestic workers in the same house. The 17-year-old suspect appeared in court, and was denied bail. His case was postponed until November 2022.

The incident happened a day after newly-appointed Oshikoto police commander Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku activated operation Genesis 8 in an effort to combat crime and to provide a safe and secure environment for residents of the region.

“We will be visible in the community to reduce crimes. We do not want to take safety for granted. Anything that you see threatening your peace or safety, please let us know. The officers will be there for you. Let us just work together, we need your cooperation” said Kalompo-Nashikaku.

The month-long operation will mainly focus on escalating cases such as stock theft, housebreaking, rape, crimes as a result of drunkenness, and cell phone theft.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old Namibian man was bumped on the B1 road between Oshivelo and Omuthiya on Monday while crossing the road, and died instantly. He was identified as Salom Simaneka from OmutsegOndjamba village in the Omuthiya constituency. His next of kin were informed.
