The biggest award that creatives can get is the ability to create art as a passion to make a difference with their work, said DJ Shoza, real name Sam Shiimi, after he won the Best DJ of the Year award.

This was at the fifth edition of the Simply You Magazine, Lifestyle and Fashion Awards 2022 in the capital over the weekend. For the first time, two DJs share the award: DJ Shoza and DJ Alba, also known as Albertina Hamukwaya.

Of the 54 nominees, 15 creatives won awards, and each will receive N$5 000.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate Namibia’s diverse and growing fashion, photography, beauty and entertainment industries as well as the philanthropists.

Denzel Naobeb, also known as NSK, won the Best Male Radio Personality award. The Fresh FM Namibia breakfast show host has been a radio presenter for more than 10 years, and won his first recognition on such a platform. Julia Heita is the Best Female Radio Personality of the Year.

“I still can’t believe it, but I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who voted for me. I appreciate you all,” posted NSK.

Notable fashion enthusiasts present were legal practitioner Vicky ya Toivo and Windeline Kausiona from Wendy Creations.

The surprise act was Sunny Boy and Teqla performing together with the Khomas Choir. It was a sight and sound many haven’t witnessed for a long time.

“The Sunny Boy and Teqla performance for me was the best. It has been a long time since I watched the two performing together and listening to songs such as ‘Ame Neumbo Lange’. They have been around in the industry, but still sound amazing. That’s the music we miss. SYMLFAs did a beautiful surprise with this one; unforgettable!” said an excited attendee.

Katy Kaune is the Makeup Artist of the Year, while journalist Michael Kayunde is the TV Personality of the Year.
