Burning issues under spotlight at congresses
Windhoek Burning issues, such as livestock marketing to South Africa, the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and the prolonged drought, will come under the spotlight as from today when the Livestock Producers Organisation (LPO) Congress starts in Windhoek, followed by the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) Congress on October 7 and 8. Both congresses will be held at the Safari Hotel in Windhoek. The theme of both congresses is “Smart Farming”. The official opening of the NAU Congress will be a breakfast this year, to be held on October 8 from 07:30 – 10:00 at the Acacia Restaurant, Safari Hotel. Chairperson of the LPO Mecki Schneider will address various obstacles and challenges for the industry in his annual report while president of the NAU Derek Wright will ask for cooperation in the agricultural sector to ensure a better future for all. This year brought great challenges, especially with regard to the status of animal health in Namibia. The Small Stock Marketing System has also not been finalised and the drought and forecasts of possible further dry spells are key issues that will be discussed in detail.
