The Khomas police are concerned about the skyrocketing cases of robbery, and said they are hard at work in pursuance of criminals involved in two robbery cases. One involves a Chinese national, who lost N$600 000 in cash on Monday.

According to spokesperson Silas Shipandeni, the Katutura police have registered case number 78/10/2022 for a robbery which occurred on Monday at about 22h40 at Hansa City Unit number six in the Lafrenz Industrial Area, Windhoek against a Chinese national.

The warrant officer reported that after Wei Tan, a 52-year-old Chinese national, completed his tasks for the day, he switched off the lights of the workshop but was attacked by four suspects.

“Immediately after opening the sliding door of the workshop, four suspects attacked him by grabbing him on his neck and mouth. They pushed him back into the workshop and onto the floor, and warned him not to move or make any noise, otherwise they would kill him,” explained Shipandeni.

The police report indicated that the suspects then tied his legs and arms together.  “They opened the cold room, and the compressor started to make noise. The suspects furthermore took the office keys and unlocked the office, and took two laptops. They then locked the businessman inside the toilet. They proceeded to unit number two, where his wife was with their five-year-old son. There, they unlocked the room with the keys that they took from the office, and slapped the wife in the face. They tied her up, also locked her in the toilet and searched the room. They got away with cash in the amount of N$600 000,” he continued.

The suspects also took four cellphones with an estimated value of N$12 000, keys for three vehicles, the remote control for the complex’s main gate, and other keys.

The second robbery incident occurred on Monday at about 10h36 at the Pupkewitz Lifestyle Shopping Mall parking in front of Cash Converters.

It is reported that Codle Uazengwa, a 43-year-old woman who works as a supervisor at Tacoma Service Station in the Southern Industrial Area, and her 42-year-old driver were on their way to deposit N$36 412 at a Bank Windhoek branch at Grove Mall.

As she disembarked and walked to the bathroom before going to the bank, two suspects followed her and grabbed her bag and fled.

The suspects disappeared from the scene in a white Toyota Corolla. No arrest has been made yet as the suspects are unknown at this stage.

Shipandeni gave the assurance that the police are hard at work to ensure that all the suspects are arrested and brought to book.
