Coast Gears for Oasis Festival
"By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK THE world-renowned Soweto String Quartet will be the main attraction at this weekend's Oasis Festival to be held at Walvis Bay for the first time. ""The festival is a collective effort by all the schools in the Walvis Bay enclave in conjunction with the municipality. The festival has a dual purpose: to promote the town as a holiday and investment destination as well as to generate funds for all the participating schools,"" said Gretta Holst, one of the organisers in an Art/Life telephonic interview. According to her the programme caters for a float march through the main street this afternoon, followed by a huge musical concert this evening at the Kuisebmund soccer stadium. ""Most local businesses will be participating with colourful floats during lunch time today. The mayor will officiate at the occasion and winners from the floats will be elected. And tonight at the musical event, we have some great local musicians to entertain the expected big crowd. Fifteen young musicians will also be featured on the first part of the programme tonight,"" said an obviously excited Holts. Among the musician to appear on tonight's bill are: Gazza, Killa B, the Matongo family and Jossy Jos with DJ Paulo of Radio Energy as Master of Ceremonies. ""Saturday is the highlight with the performance of the Soweto String Quartet in concert at the Lagoon. We are optimistic that the group will attract the whole town to its performance. If this festival goes well and is supported, we intend making it an annual event of fun, laughter and entertainment for the whole family in the interest of the town and education,"" said Holst."
