Drive-thru testing opens at Unam

The University of Namibia has set up a drive- through PCR test facility for Covid-19 at the Hage Geingob Campus in Windhoek.

The facility is open Mondays to Saturdays from 07h30 to 09h30.

Speaking to New Era this week, the head of diagnostic laboratory at Unam, Dr Emmanuel Nepolo said the drive-through testing is a way of giving a full package of Covid-19 assistance to the community from testing and giving results without sending patients away.

Drive-through Covid-19 testing sites are an effective solution to quickly collect samples from suspected cases with minimal risk to healthcare personnel and other patients.

Nepolo added, “the aim was to give a comprehensive full package to the community. This was costless because we are using our own premises and I encourage people to use this facility effectively.” He explained that people are requested to book online and get confirmation before making payments of N$850 before getting tested and receiving results the same day. Adding that the university has made provisions for people to walk in.

This is a second initiative open in Windhoek following the Namib Laboratories that has set up a drive-through test facility for Covid-19 at the Wanderers Sports Club in Pioneerspark.

People are required to bring along a photocopy and original ID, Unam Covid-19 request form, ministry of health case investigation form, and proof of payment. – mndjavera@nepc.com.na
