‘Enchanted’ screening Wednesday

The screening of ‘Encantados’ (Enchanted), a film by Brazilian award-winning director Tizuka Yamasaki, is set for Wednesday in celebration of International Women’s Day and the role of women in cinema.

Encantados is a story inspired by life, dreams and thoughts of a Brazilian Pajé, a healer of the Amazon forest.

The romantic drama was released in 2018, and is one hour and 18 minutes long.

Yamasaki is a descendant of Japanese immigrants who arrived in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the early 20th century.

She studied architecture and film, and collaborated with iconic Brazilian filmmakers such as Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Glauber Rocha.

Amongst her most-known movies is ‘Gaijin’ (1980), portraying the life of Japanese immigrants in Brazil, for which she was awarded Best Film in the Gramado Film Festival and a ‘Special Commendation’ of the Cannes Film Festival, among other international awards.

The screening will be held at 18h30 at the Village Opera House along Liliencron Street in Windhoek, and will be preceded by a welcoming cocktail and presentation of the Namibian short film ‘Grootman’ by director Lavina Kapewasha.

There are limited seats available.
