By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK THE Walvis Bay Municipality has appointed four peace officers in the Long Beach area for the festive season, it was announced in a press release by the local authority last week. According to the official communication, the peace officers will be responsible for enforcing all municipal by-laws. “They will, among other duties, concentrate on unlicensed quad bikes, illegal driving of vehicles and quad bikes along the beach, littering, violation of road traffic signs, unlicensed vehicles and drivers, excessive noise levels and illegal overnight camping,” the statement warned. The four will maintain law and order in the area of the Dolphin Resort to Caution Reef and from the high water mark to the western side of the Walvis Bay/Swakopmund main road. “Members of the public are reminded that these peace officers are legal law enforcement officers. “They were appointed in terms of section 334 of the Criminal Procedure Act, No. 51 of 1977, to enforce all municipal by-laws and regulations,” the press release reads. The four officers are: Theunis and Desmean Theunis, Nicolas Pienaar and Brandon Dennewell.
