Farmworkers find pieces of elephant tusks

RUNDU – Farmworkers on a farm in Kavango West region picked up five pieces of elephant tusks at a water point on Monday. The workers informed the police and handed over the ivory pieces.

It is not clear whether the pieces broke from elephants whilst fighting or a poacher left them there.

“A case was reported on Monday that the tusk pieces were found at 10h00 at Agrotuor farm.

The workers found the five pieces of unknown value and the police went to collect them,” said commissioner Josephat Abel of the Kavango West police. Abel said no arrest was made, as there was no suspect as yet.

In other news, the police in Kavango East, reported that a lifeless body of Pius Dimbu Mangundu (51), a Namibian citizen was found hanging on a tree at Kayanga village, Mukwe constituency.

Mangundu was an acting school principal at Biro Combined School in the same constituency.

He was reported to have left his homestead on Sunday morning in search of his missing goats but never returned.

His body was discovered by a villager near his homestead.

No suicide note was left on the scene.

“An inquest docket was registered as per Mukwe IQ 05/2021. His next of kin were informed and police investigations continue,’’ said deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu.
