Fear of ritual killing leads to woman’s death
Eenhana The alleged fear of ritual killing allegedly caused a 21-year-old pregnant woman to jump out of a moving vehicle. She died instantly. The incident took place between Okauva and Etomba village in Ohangwena Region. The woman identified as Lavinia Ndahafa Festus from Omakelo village in Ohangwena last Thursday boarded a vehicle from Ondobe on her way to her home village. As the vehicle approached a spot on the road under construction, the driver allegedly made a detour to a road passing through the bushes, as the gravel road was blocked. The woman, who was alone with the driver in the vehicle, allegedly asked the driver where he was heading to. Before he could answer, she allegedly opened the door and jumped out of the vehicle. When the driver stopped the vehicle, he found her bleeding from the head, but she was still alive. She, however, succumbed to injuries moments later. The woman allegedly thought the driver was about to kidnap her for ritual killing, and that is the reason she attempted to flee. According to Ohangwena Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Kaume Itumba, details on the woman’s hospital passport showed that she was on her way from antenatal care at Engela State Hospital. The health passport also showed she was four months pregnant. Details on her card helped the police to trace her next of kin and her residential address. A case of capable homicide was opened against the driver. Reports about ritual killers stalking some rural areas are rife. Ritual killings involve the killing of humans whose parts are usually used apparently to strengthen traditional concoctions that some business people use to make their businesses thrive.
