Fourth and final leg of Grand Prix this Saturday

The fourth leg of the Athletics Namibia (AN) Grand Prix will take place in Rietfontein on Saturday, and will see close to 300 athletes from across the country competing.

With it being the last event on the AN calendar for the year, stiff competition is expected.

AN secretary general Martha Emvula told New Era Sport that athletes are starved for competition, and tough contests are thus anticipated.

“Athletes who recently competed in the relay tournament will also be taking part. We are excited to see what this weekend has in store for us and the country at large,” she added.

Also speaking to this publication yesterday, founder of Namib Lions Athletics Club Michael Hamukwaya said they will have 12 athletes – six para-athletes and six able-bodied athletes – at the Grand Prix, which athletes can use to qualify for the Commonwealth Games next year.

“It is an exciting time, given the fact that there hasn’t been enough competition in the past few months, and this will be a perfect opportunity for our athletes to test their fitness levels.”

Three legs of the Grand Prix already took place in Oshakati, Swakopmund and Windhoek.
