Gareth Harvey to perform at Gin and Jazz tonight

Renowned saxophonist Gareth Harvey is set to captivate the audience tonight at Lemon Tree Restaurant in the inaugural Gin & Jazz evening.

Organisers described the event as more than just an evening of fine music and spirits – it’s a celebration of artistry, talent, and community.

Harvey likens the Gin & Jazz extravaganza to the “bringing together of world-class gin, the best on jazz and contemporary music, and most importantly, bringing the community together”.

“I hope the night creates great memories while exposing people to jazz music and connecting with one another,” he told VIBEZ!

Guests can expect a large variety of gins to taste, some mesmerising cocktails from a mixologist, good food and various forms of jazz music by Harvey on saxophone.

Harvey has worked most of his career as a session musician, helping make artists’ music – from singers and composers to Amapiano producers and DJs – a reality on the live stage.

Throughout his 14 years in the music industry, he has worked with several local artists in Namibia, including Riaan Smit, Jessica Ashley, Janelle Botha, Soul King, and multi-instrumentalist Sir Ray.

He draws his inspiration from a great South African saxophonist and composer McCoy Mrubata and jazz trumpet virtuoso Feya Faku.

“I have one album under my band’s name based in South Africa called Saxit! – the album is Systeme Diabolique and can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or purchased through Bandcamp,” he said.

He is also involved in commission work and writing scores for various artists in SA.

The Gin and Jazz Festival was started by Zandri Scholtz from Tribe One Productions to promote local music and talent.
