Gunners win first round

Mighty Gunners Netball Club started their defence of the MTC Netball Namibia Premier League (NNPL) title on a positive note with a resounding 68-20 victory over newly-promoted Fataou at the Paresis courts in Otjiwarongo on Saturday.

Desire Namases, the spokesperson of Gunners, expressed her contentment with the outcome, saying it was a good result for the team early in the new season.

“We are grateful to the sponsors for ensuring that the league resumed, and we played our first match today with great success. While we expected such results, we remain confident that we can accomplish more and maintain our performance throughout the season,” she said.

Namases acknowledged that the competition for the title this season will be intense, but Gunners are confident in their abilities to emerge victorious once again.

Netball Namibia president Rebecca Goagoses expressed satisfaction with the teams’ overall performance, saying the league will be challenging for all teams due to the potential demonstrated by most teams.

“It’s one of the toughest seasons, looking at the teams’ performance on the court. They are all looking good and we can surely say this would be a very interesting season,” she said.

In other matches played on Saturday, Otjozondjupa Nampol secured a 39-34 win against Afrocat Lions, while Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) – the inaugural champions – started their campaign with a 32-25 victory against Wanderers.

Eleven Arrows defeated Rebels 36-33, Navy trounced Northern Fly Ballers 52-25, and Tigers Netball Club won 47-33 against Youngster.

Otjozondjupa Nampol played their second match of the day against Wanderers, defeating them 50-31.
