Identification of unmarked graves needed – Kankoshi

OMUTHIYA - The governor of Oshikoto Region, Henock Kankoshi, has called upon community members with knowledge to come forth and report unmarked and unidentified graves of fallen heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, for recognition.

Kankoshi made these remarks at the belated commemoration of Heroes Day held on Saturday at Okashaana Koomanya in Eengodhi Constituency.

The main event of Heroes Day was held at Nkurenkuru in Kavango West a fortnight ago.
“We have a lot of unmarked and unidentified graves of our fallen liberators who fought and made significant contributions to the attainment of this country’s independence. Therefore, those with the knowledge should come forth to report to the relevant authorities for consideration and records,” stated Kankoshi.

He also implored learners who were in attendance to focus more on history so that they can learn and know about the country’s past and how independence came about.

At the same occasion, Kankoshi applauded Okashana Koomanya Combined School for being clean. The praise comes after the school got two awards consecutively for being the cleanest school in Omuthiya circuit.
Okashana is a rural school situated about 24 kilometres west of Omuthiya town.

According to the school principal Fillemon Kalimbo, keeping the school environment tidy has now become a culture. “We only have one cleaner at the school but it is always clean. The secret behind it is, we use Wednesdays which is a sport day to clean the school when there are less activities, or any other day after late afternoon classes. Apart from that there is nothing out of the ordinary,” stressed Kalimbo, enthusiastically aiming to scoop this year’s cleanness accolade come next 2019 when they hold the awards ceremony.

In addition, Kalimbo said, some hooligan learners and latecomers have also played a major role in keeping the school clean through social punishment.
