Khomas Netball to host Winter Cup

The Khomas Netball, the regional netball governing body that also oversees the Khomas Super 10 league, has put in motion plans to host the Khomas Winter Cup in August this year.

The Khomas Super 10 league was recently put on hold after it was discovered that the body had poorly trained and certified umpires to facilitate the proper management of matches.

This led to serious challenges for both affiliates and the league executive. At times, matches started late and were being postponed regularly.

The league is, however, expected to return in September.

According to Khomas Netball secretary general Connie Samaria, the league has since resolved to host the Khomas Winter Cup from 15 to 16 August, and it will be open to all league affiliates.

“The league stopped because of various reasons; one being the poor training of umpires as well as introducing a winter break. We realised that most of these players are in schools and most of them are on holiday at the moment, and that will also make it difficult for league activities to continue in a normal way,” Samaria said.

Former Khomas Netball chairperson Dimitri Bittler, who recently resigned, was replaced by Willemina Pieters, who will be acting in that position until the next elective meeting.

“The constitution states that the vice chairperson steps into the chairperson position if the chairperson is unable or unavailable to serve. So, Pieters will be acting as chairperson of the region until the next annual general meeting,” said Samaria.
