Magic Ladies start title defence with emphatic win

FNB Women Super League defending champions Tura Magic Ladies on Saturday kicked off their league title defence with a resounding 8-1 victory over Right Way FC at the NFA Technical Centre in the capital.

Despite their emphatic performance, Magic Ladies coach Shama Gure said they could have scored even more goals and done more in certain areas, but nonetheless; he was a happy man with the team’s overall performance and win.

“I am pleased with the team’s performance today as we played well against Right Way and controlled the entire match, creating plenty of chances. However, I feel we should have done more and been more clinical in front of goal. But I am happy, I will take the win,” said Gure.

Meanwhile, Right Way’s head coach Immanuel Hamutenya said he was quite disappointed with the way they lost the match and with the score margin they lost with. He attributed the heavy defeat to the fact that some of his players are still settling in.

“It was a tough match and since it was our first match, some of our players are still new and trying to settle in. I don’t think this match reflects who we are as a team, it’s just the beginning and once we play more matches, we’ll be able to assess what we need to work on. Moving forward, we will focus on improving our fitness levels and enhancing our teamwork, which will be crucial in the long run,” he said.

In other matches, Beauties secured a 7-2 victory over Okahandja also on Saturday, while Namib Daughters lost 2-3 to Arrows Ladies, and NUST suffered a heavy 0-6 defeat to V-Power.

Also, on Saturday at the Unam stadium, Goalz and Galz defeated Khomas Nampol 1-0; and their coach Ronnie Hoxobeb thanked his players for their fantastic performance.

“Our players stuck to the game plan and made it difficult for our opponents. I am thrilled to have come out victorious and collected maximum points,” he said.

Novata Paulus, Nampol’s assistant coach, expressed disappointment with her team’s fitness level and vowed to work on improving it to ensure better results in future matches.

“I am pleased with my players and their performance; they gave it their all. However, I believe that our fitness level is lacking, and that cost us points today. Therefore, our main focus moving forward will be on improving our fitness level,” she added.
