Man allegedly commits suicide with father’s rifle

RUNDU - A 22-year-old man from Mulanga village in Lubuta area of Zambezi region, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his father’s rifle, which he supposedly took on Friday morning.

“The incident happened on 4 March at around 20h00 at Mulanga village. It is alleged that Munyingwa Bumai, a Namibian male left the house at around 11h00 with his father’s rifle to the field and shot himself,” read the police weekend crime report.

The deceased’s body was later discovered in the bushes at around 20h00 on Friday evening. 

Still in the Zambezi region, the Katima Mulilo police recorded a case of reckless and/or negligent driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence after a 22-year-old Zambian man was run over by an unlicensed driver.

The accident took place on Saturday along the Linyanti-Katima Mulilo road at Mafikeng village in the Masokotwani area.

“It is alleged that a 40-year-old male driver of a white Nissan Tiida was driving from Katima Mulilo to Kapani when he bumped the victim. Maswabi Funwell sustained serious head injuries after the accident. The victim was transferred to Windhoek State hospital for treatment,’’ the police noted. 

The suspect was arrested and the police are investigating the matter.
