NDIYONA – An adult male was on Friday arrested by the Namibian police after he was found to be transporting game meat (a hippopotamus carcass) at Katere village in the Ndiyona constituency, Kavango East region.

The suspect is due to face charges of illegal transportation and possession of game meat. 

“The suspect was arrested on Friday, 28 July 2023, at about 18h00 after he was found with game meat at Katere village Kavango East region. It is alleged that the suspect was found in possession of a carcass of a hippopotamus without authorisation and cannot account to such possession,’’ said the police in the weekend serious crime report. The hippo carcass, which was valued at N$100 000, was recovered and the suspect was arrested. He was due to appear before court at the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on yesterday.

In a different case, a case of stock theft was reported at Tses village in the //Kharas region on Friday, 29 July 2023. According to the police weekend serious crime report, at an unknown time at Swartwater farm, which is in the Tses area, a suspect allegedly stole 17 sheep and slaughtered 16. 

“It’s alleged that suspects stole 17 sheep from the complaint’s kraal and slaughtered them without the owner’s consent. The sheep is estimated to the value of N$25 500, and only one sheep carcass was recovered,’’ said the police.

“One suspect, an adult Namibian male, was arrested. Police investigations continue.’’
