A Windhoek man reportedly fatally shot himself in the early hours of Monday, after shooting and seriously injuring his girlfriend.
Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the two had been involved in an argument before the shooting.
The incident occurred in Onyeka Street, in Windhoek’s Okuryangava residential area. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old David Isai Valungameka.
“He shot the victim in the head and she was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital in critical condition. He thereafter shot himself in the mouth and he was declared dead on the scene by City of Windhoek paramedics,” Shikwambi said.
The two were reportedly in a relationship and Valungameka went to his 33-year-old girlfriend’s room on Sunday night. Around 04h00 a disagreement erupted between the two and the woman notified her sister that Valungameka had threatened to kill her.
Immediately thereafter gunshots were heard in the bedroom.
“Upon entering the room after they broke down the door, two bodies were found lying in a pool of blood on the bed,” Shikwambi said.
Valungameka’s next of kin were informed of his death.
