2005-12-19Staff Report 2 By Kuvee Kangueehi Windhoek The Mbanderu community in the Aminuis constituency has reportedly dethroned their Senior Traditional Councillor Ludwig Karumendu after he refused to back Senior Traditional Councillor Erastus Tjiundikua Kahuure in the wrangling that pits him against Chief Munjuku Nguvauva. Kahuure is believed to be wielding wide support in the constituency. Karumendu is the latest victim in the ongoing dispute between Senior Traditional Councillor Erasmus Tjiundikua Kahuure and the Mbanderu Chief Munjuku Nguvauva. At a meeting held last weekend, Karumendu was replaced by his second in command Sondy Tjiroze after Mbanderu councillors at Aminuis passed a motion of no confidence in their leader. Karumendu has been under pressure for a number of weeks now to toe his community's line or ship out. The community earlier gave him an ultimatum to sign a protest letter to Nguvauva or vacate his position. A Mbanderu councillor who attended the meeting claims that after Karumendu was given the ultimatum, he has been avoiding the community and refusing to attend meetings. The source claims that Karumendu was invited to more than four meetings but to no avail. Hence, the community resolved to remove him. Karumendu now finds himself between a rock and a hard place. He faces marginalisation by the Mbanderu Traditional Authority if he opposes the adoption of the constitution, which was endorsed by Nguvauva. The Senior Traditional Councillor from Aminuis faces a possibility of losing his monthly allowance from Government now that he has been removed. The Mbanderu community has also written a letter to Nguvauva informing him about the latest developments and would seek an audience with Nguvauva to discuss the controversial Mbanderu constitution. The news of Karumendu's removal is likely to be good news for Kahuure, who has been gaining support since his fallout with Nguvauva almost three months ago. Kahuure is believed to have a strong following in Windhoek, Aminuis and Otjombinde, but not Epukiro, the bedrock of Nguvauva's support, as well as Eiseb Block. 2005-12-19Staff Report 2
