Minors struck by unlicensed ‘drunk’ driver

RUNDU – A suspected drunk driver is facing serious charges, including driving without a licence as well as reckless and or negligent driving.

The charges emanate after he allegedly hit two children who were crossing a street in Rundu on Monday afternoon.  The two children aged 13 and six sustained injuries and were rushed to the Rundu State hospital for medical attention.  «The victims were bumped by a motor vehicle while crossing the Eugene Kakukuru Street in Rundu town,” said Kavango East police chief Johanna Ngondo.  «The driver is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened and was arrested on the spot,» she expanded.

Ngondo urged car owners to refrain from giving their vehicles to unlicensed drivers. She also cautioned drunk drivers to stop making roads unsafe for other citizens. About a week ago, a suspected drunk driver who lost control of the vehicle bumped two pedestrians walking a distance away from the road in Sauyemwa location.  One of the victims died on the spot.
