NAMAs will encourage artists to work hard

The revival of the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) has brought a great deal of joy to Namibian artists, who were concerned that the music industry would suffer without any encouragement.

Patrick Mwashindange of PDK is pleased that Namibia’s top music awards’ show is back, and that Namibians are recognising the importance of an organisation that promotes music.

However, he hopes the NAMAs will not award mediocrity and will instead judge artists based on excellence and their contributions to the local industry.

“I’m very excited that the NAMAs are back, but I’m hoping it’s not the same NAMAs that award mediocrity and aims to be inclusive of everything,” he observed.

Mushe Musomi, also known as DJ Vuyo, believes that the NAMAs are a source of motivation for artists and appreciation for musicians.

“The NAMAs are a motivator to me to push and produce  more music for my fans,” said DJ Vuyo.

The show makes a return this year after a two-year absence following the withdrawal of a telecommunications giant.

Established in 2011 by MTC and the NBC, the event honours musicians for achievements in the industry with sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes.

It is slated for The MTC Dome in Swakopmund on a date yet to be announced.
