Namibia Big 5 celebrating local music and culture

In a vibrant celebration of Namibian talent and culture, MultiChoice Namibia has joined forces with Power TV Zambia and Energy 100FM to launch the ‘Namibia Big 5’ entertainment show.

The official launch was held yesterday, and marks a significant step in showcasing Namibian music and entertainment to a broader audience across the southern African region.

At the heart of ‘Namibia Big 5’ is its dedicated time slot on Power TV Zambia on DStv channel 278, every Thursday at 20h00.

Viewers will have the privilege of immersing themselves in the diverse world of Namibian music. From traditional melodies to contemporary hits, ‘Namibia Big 5’ is poised to unveil the rich tapestry of musical talent that Namibia possesses.

Kenny Tonga, the chief executive officer of Power TV, expressed his excitement. “We are thrilled to bring the dynamic essence of Namibian music and entertainment to our viewers. ‘Namibia Big 5’ embodies our commitment to celebrating local talent and culture”, he enthused.

Power TV is renowned as Zambia’s leading entertainment channel, broadcasting in both High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition throughout southern Africa. For this groundbreaking partnership, Power TV chose to expand its coverage into Namibia, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration.

“I hope we will be able to achieve great things together. I am delighted to celebrate the expansion of our coverage and the art of music in the region. Power TV is grateful for the opportunity to partner with MultiChoice Namibia Africa,” Tonga added.

In a bid to offer quality local entertainment and broaden their audience base, Power TV is encouraging Namibian viewers to participate in determining popular songs through social media voting, facilitated by their partnership with Energy 100FM.

Elsabe Tibinyane, a representative of Energy 100FM, highlighted the station’s dedication to supporting local music since its launch in 1996. Energy 100 FM, the first youth commercial radio station in Namibia, has been a steadfast supporter of local artists for decades.

Tibinyane remarked: “You could not have chosen a better radio station to partner with because Energy 100FM has been a staunch advocate for local music since 1996. We’ve supported numerous local artists over the years, and will continue to play our part in promoting and supporting Namibian artists through ‘Namibia Big 5’.”

Energy 100FM was among the first radio stations in Namibia to be featured on audio channels such as IMS, available on DStv Audio 868 and GOtv 302. This, according to Tibinyane, underscores their commitment to supporting local talent because “local is lekker.”
