Nghutenanye stops Ngwando in seventh round…as Josef successfully defends title

WBA Pan African flyweight champion Fillemon Nghutenanye on Saturday extended his impressive record after defeating Tanzania’s Ally Ngwando to successfully retain his title in the main fight of the MTC Salute Boxing Academy’s ‘Back to Action’ boxing bonanza held at the Safari Hotel.

The fight started on a good note as both boxers showed determination, exchanging hard punches.

Ngwando continued to press his opponent in the second round as he landed some forceful blows, while Nghutenanye played it smart by protecting himself from some of those hard-hitting punches.

In the third round, the bout was still moving with the same momentum as both boxers continued to show determination with the exchange of serious body shots.

Nghutenanye started to show dominance in the seventh round, landing stomach blows on the Tanzanian, who eventually buckled, leaving the Namibian to seal a TKO victory.

Speaking after the match, Nghutenanye said it was a tough match for him because he went into the fight with a small injury. He added that his faith and belief got him through to secure a well-deserved victory.

“I knew I had what it take to retain the title, but I had a bit of a struggle going into the match as I had a knuckle injury which made it very difficult for me to throw punches that were landing. So, I had to rely on one of my hands which eventually helped to earn a victory,” he said.

In the main supporting bout, Immanuel Josef retained his WBO Africa Flyweight title against Tisetso Modisadife of South Africa after the match was stopped in the seventh round due to some technical issues.

In the national welterweight title bout, Abed Shikongo claimed the title after defeating Simon Shafodino, while Lukas Ndafoluma stopped Mussah Mkwanda of Zimbabwe in the fifth round in the super middleweight non-title
fight.

Promising young prospect Harry Simon Junior put up a great fight to earn a victory at the beginning of the second round against Limbami Chikapa of Malawi in a welterweight non-title fight.

Lazarus Shaningwa defeated Israel Kamwamba of Malawi in the super featherweight title match, while Tomas Shifiona defeated John Shitilitha in the super bantamweight fight.
