NN postpones AGM

Netball Namibia (NN) on Saturday postponed its Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was scheduled for Gobabis due to noncompliance by council members.

Rebecca Goagoses, the president of NN, said that NN prioritises adherence to its constitution and ensuring a fair and inclusive meeting for all members.

“We understand the disappointment this may cause. However, upholding the integrity of our democratic processes is paramount. We are committed to resolving the matter swiftly and ensuring all regions are in good standing according to the constitution.

“NN is currently reviewing the situation and will announce a new date for the AGM in due course. The new date will be communicated through official channels,” she said on the sidelines of the 2024 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup football and netball tournament at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis.

Meanwhile, NN acting secretary general Isack Hamata explained that the requirement in terms of the constitution is that all regions must be in good standing to be able to attend and participate in the AGM – and most importantly, vote when the room is divided on any matter.

“In this case, the majority of regions did not submit records of their regional meetings as well as their annual financial statements, which is a requirement. They also did not pay affiliation fees to the mother body.”

A new AGM will have to be called in 60 days as agreed by Council, added Hamata.
