WINDHOEK – Twelve people lost their lives over the past weekend of murders, road accidents and suicides across the country, including the gruesome death of a 21-year-old who died because of a cellphone.
According to the police the deceased, identified as Kahepako Tjiueza, was involved in an argument with a 20-year-old over his cellular phone when he got stabbed in the chest with a spear. The cellphone belonged to the deceased which he had given to the accused. The incident took place on farm Otjomukona in Aminuis.
Khomas Region reported four deaths of which three were murders and one a fatal dog attack. All three deaths were as a result of the deceased succumbing to stab wounds inflicted on them by suspected perpetrators.
Wanaheda police station reported the death of Losina Niho, 29, who died on Sunday after being stabbed on the left side of his ribs with a knife. Niho tried to diffuse an argument between the 47-year-old suspect and another person when the suspect turned against the deceased and stabbed her. The suspect handed himself over to the police. The incident occurred in Oshakati Street, Havana, Windhoek.
The police reported the death of Benjamin Urion, 40, who succumbed to injuries after he was assaulted on Sunday at farm Kransneus in Groot Aub. Urion was allegedly kicked and punched by suspects and later succumbed to the injuries at Katutura state hospital. A murder case has been opened and a 21-year-old male suspect was arrested while his accomplice is still at large.
On Sunday the police in Karibib reported a fire incident which resulted in the death of Josefine Beukes, 47. Beukes burnt to death after a shack she was sleeping in caught fire at Karibib’s informal settle of Harambee.
A candle is suspected to be the cause of the fire that burnt down the shack.
In an unrelated incident, a pensioner died after he was hit by a car on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Mojenda Stephanus, 61, was struck by a silver Toyota Hilux pickup. Stephanus died on the spot on the Hosea Kutako road, about 3km west of Kapps Farm checkpoint.
