Stars to begin title defence against Pirates…Brazilians to battle Khomas Nampol  

The Debmarine Premiership will mark its return this Saturday with exciting number of matches lined up at various venues across the nation.

The reigning champions, African Stars commences their title defence, as they are set to clash with the formidable Dolam outfit, Orlando Pirates, at Independence Stadium in the capital. Meanwhile, Blue Waters, who secured the second position in the 2022/23 season, are poised to challenge the newly promoted Okakarara Young Warriors at Vineta Stadium.

In Gobabis, the Young African team is eager to kick-start
their campaign with a quest for maximum points in their opening match against FC Ongos, formerly known as Tura Magic, at Legare Stadium.

Julinho Sporting, representing the two Kavango regions
as the sole team, faces a formidable test in their 2023/24 season opener as they take on Life Fighters, from Otjiwarongo. Meanwhile, Young Brazilians is geared up to capitalise on their home advantage when they host the newly promoted side, Khomas Nampol.

In a recent interview with New Era Sport, Christophine Nehombo, vice-chairperson of Khomas Nampol, expressed her excitement about their debut match in the premier league. She emphasised their readiness, attributing it to their comprehensive efforts to reinforce the team.

“We recognise the tough opponents this weekend, but
we are equally a strong side and fully prepared for any
challenge this season. Having known Young Brazilians from their days in the First Division, we anticipate a fiercely
contested match,” she confidently stated.

Regarding their strategies and objectives for the season, Nehombo remarked, “Our primary goal is to excel this season and secure our position in the top-tier football league. We aspire to reach the top eight by the season’s conclusion,” she added 

Meanwhile, Mannetjie Kaaronda, assistant coach of Okakarara Young Warriors, recognised the strength of their opponents but affirmed their readiness to face the coastal team.

“Both mentally and physically, we are primed and motivated. We conducted a training session Wednesday
and witnessed our players’ mental and physical fitness for Saturday’s encounter,” Kaaronda declared.

“We had the opportunity to observe Waters’ performance in a pre-season tournament, recognising the quality they possess. We’ve meticulously prepared and developed strategies to counter a team of their calibre,” he added confidently.
