Top prospects to showcase their talent…as MTC Kilimanjaro hosts boxing bonanza

Northern boxing fans are in for a treat on 8 July 2023, as the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Academy is set to host an exciting boxing bonanza in Okongo, Ohangwena region.

In an interview with this publication yesterday, Joseph Bernard, the owner and trainer at the academy, expressed his excitement about the upcoming event, emphasising its significance in the boxing community.

This will be the third event for this year for the academy, and they will focus on nurturing amateur talent, aligning with their core objective of developing young boxers.

“After a prolonged absence from hosting events, it’s good witnessing the return of promising young prospects to the ring. It is truly refreshing. This will be our third event of the year, and we anticipate a spectacular display of skill and determination, with 16 thrilling bouts lined up for the night,” Bernard said.

When asked about the preparations leading up to the bonanza, Bernard said the dedication and hard work shown by the boxers is overwhelming.

He assured fans in the northern part of the country that preparations have reached an advanced stage, commending the consistent training efforts of the athletes.

“Our boxers have been rigorously training at the gym since day one. I can confidently say they are fully prepared to deliver an electrifying performance at
this highly anticipated bonanza,” he added.

The event promises to be an exceptional gathering of boxers hailing from the four northern regions, meeting in an exciting tournament, aimed at fostering their development.

Bernard said boxing is a unifying sport; hence, the tournament is set to bring together the northern boxers under one roof.

“As MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Academy, we hold the responsibility of bringing together talented boxers from across the four regions. We are proud to organise a comprehensive boxing event in the north, acting as a catalyst for the development of boxers – not only within our stable but also those from less privileged stables. This provides them with an opportunity to engage in significant fights that contribute to their growth,” Bernard said

He also said they intend on hosting boxing bouts in the two Kavango regions and Zambezi in the near future.

“We realised that Zambezi and two Kavango regions are quiet with boxing activities – and that is why we intend to host matches there because we believe it is up to us to promote events there, as there are a lot of talents that are unearthed,” he added
