Two die after stolen car overturns

ONGWEDIVA – One suspected car thief died on the spot and another in hospital after the vehicle, which they allegedly stole, overturned in their quest to get away.

The third suspect, who is also a victim of the accident that took place at Okapya on the outskirts of Ondangwa, escaped from under the watch of the police officers while hospitalised at Onandjokwe hospital. The accident took place on Saturday around 02h00. According to police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo, the suspects stopped a taxi at a fuel service station in Ongwediva and pretended they were going to a nearby fuel service station. It is alleged the suspects took out knives and started threatening the taxi driver. Aiyambo narrated that the suspects were demanding money and car keys from the victim.

“The victim surrendered, and gave everything to the suspects,” he said.

He escaped unharmed.

The suspects drove the vehicle to Ondangwa. Aiyambo said the two suspects were taken to Onandjokwe hospital; however, the second suspect died Sunday around 12h00.

He added the third suspect has escaped from the hospital.

“We are appealing to the public to assist us with information related to the suspect to report it immediately to the nearby police station,” he said.

He said people should pay a visit to the Onandjokwe hospital mortuary to identify the victim.
