Unam Rugby Club on Saturday overpowered Wanderers 37-31 in a well-attended premier league match at the Unam stadium in the capital.

Speaking to this publication after the match, Unam coach David Philander admitted that the match was tough, saying their opponents gave them a run for their money.

He said it was great that they managed to collect maximum points, which is very important as they try to keep up with log leaders Kudus.

“We did not have a game plan heading into the match; we just take it one game at a time and what we practice at our training sessions. It was a very difficult game as Wanderers is a strong team and they made it difficult for us but, however, we managed to collect maximum points at home,” he noted.

Philander said the win boosted their confidence as they want to keep up with the log leaders until the day they will play against them.

Another match on Saturday saw coastal outfit Kudus extending their lead on top of the rugby premiership when they sunk Grootfontein 23-13 on home soil.

Reho Falcon suffered a defeat at the hands of Trustco United with a score of 31-35, while Rehoboth proved to be the better team on the day, beating Western Suburbs 20-17.
