Unam, Wanderers in final of NRU League

Wanderers and Unam both booked their tickets to the final of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) premier league.

Wanderers beat Western Suburbs 20-13, while Unam defeated Rehoboth 27-24 on Saturday.

Unam coach Johan Diergaardt told New Era Sport that Rehoboth just did not want to give up.

“It was a tough game. They were a tough opponent and had that fighting spirit, which gave us a tough competition. However, our boys also showed up and did what they could to ensure that victory was ours at the end of the day,” he added.

On their plans for the final, he said they will need to make huge amendments to the squad in order to remain in a better position of doing well.

“Heading forward, I know the final would not be an easy game, given the fact that the team that we are going to face is such a strong team.”

The match was a repeat of the 2019 season’s semi-final, which saw Unam beat Rehoboth 25-20 in a tense affair.

Meanwhile, Unam’s second team lost their NRU Reserve League match by 15-16 against Kudus.

The final will take place on 23 October 2021.
