KATIMA MULILO – The Zambezi region has set a target of vaccinating 65 000 inhabitants by December this year. Regional governor Lawrence Sampofu said this when he received his Covid-19 jab at Katima Mulilo on Monday. The governor, who took the Johnson & Johnson shot, expressed concern over the low vaccine uptake among Zambezi residents. “We are calling upon our people to come in big numbers to get vaccinated. We have put a target of 65 000 people to be vaccinated by December,” he said. “I am also appealing to the Namibian people to be careful when listening to views on social media, as it is full of information that might discourage you from getting vaccinated. It is better to listen to what our government is telling us.”

He further said that the vaccination process was very easy as all the information that one need was provided by healthcare workers. “They inform you about everything and give you the advantage and disadvantages,” Sampofu said while encouraging residents to get vaccinated. “You should come back to the hospital if you do not feel well after receiving the vaccine as advised by the healthcare workers,” said Sampofu, who was accompanied by his wife Julia, who also received the jab.
