RUNDU – Ndonga Linena constituency councillor Anselm Marungu says going to the National Council will not affect his work in the constituency.
High on his agenda, Marungu said, is fighting hunger and poverty through agricultural empowerment.
Marungu, in an exclusive interview with New Era, said he has begun his engagements with inhabitants of the constituency.
“Next week, we are going to start with the programme of putting up village development committees (VDCs). At the moment, together with my constituency office colleagues, we are visiting traditional structures, headmen and headwomen, including the traditional authorities and leaders within our constituency,” he said.
The aim for his visits is to introduce and inform the traditional authorities and community that officially he has started his duty and to establish a working relationship between his office and the traditional authority.
“After the VDC have been elected, they will be offered training. Once the VDCs have been put into place, we will also be visiting various villages and communities to assess their needs, and once documented, then we can work together with stakeholders, including the regional council, to see to it that we deliver on behalf of the government as expected,’’ he said.
He added: “Going to the National Council doesn’t mean that I won’t attend to my responsibility in the constituency. I will manage both the national, regional and constituency responsibilities, as I am capable of both my roles.
I will be in close contact with the constituency structures, the VDC and the traditional authority,’’ he said.
They are also prioritising agriculture and plan to get communities organised to empower them to start community gardens to fight hunger and poverty.
“We will support them with seeds and other implements through the office; this is to eliminate hunger so that once we have eliminated hunger, young people in different communities can now focus on their studies as well as look for employment and other opportunities, because when hungry, people cannot have the strength to focus on their education and so on. We will also get them a market where they can sell their fresh produce,’’ he said.
Sport is also on Marungu’s agenda. He has already established and is busy organising the Marungu Heroes Cup, which he will sponsor come August at Nyondo village.
Sport codes will include football, netball, and cultural festivities.
