WINDHOEK Premier league matches will resume this weekend after a month-long break necessitated by the Mobile Telecommunication Limited (MTC) Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup whose second round concluded over the weekend. Log leaders Civics FC will lock horns against second-seated Black Africa at the SKW Stadium at 19h30 today, Friday. Civics’ hopes are now switched back to retaining the premier league title following their exit from the MTC/NFA Cup last Saturday. In-form Black Africa equals the points on the log standing with Civics FC as they both share 21 points. The return of goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo to his former club elevated the player’s spirit and determination to clinch the 2006/07 title. Fysal Oshakati City, despite bidding farewell to the MTC/NFA Cup, is another title contender and is now placed third with 20 points and, that in itself makes the title race fight neck-to-neck for the three top teams. The northern town outfit has a date with Tigers on tomorrow, Saturday, again at the SKW Stadium at 15h00. Tigers’ performance has slumped and they now find themselves in fifth place with 18 points. Windhoek Optics (WO) Ramblers, another serious title hopeful placed fourth with 18 points, will play host to Outjo-based Golden Bees at 15h00. WO Ramblers, also contesting the MTC/NFA Cup, has the necessary ammunition to make their way to the top of the elite league ladder. The match will take place at the Ramblers Sports Stadium. Golden Bees, placed ninth with 11 points, seem to be no threat to the top five placed teams on the log. Cymot SKW, in sixth place with 16 points, will travel to Walvis Bay to engage Blue Waters at the Kuisebmund Stadium at 21h30. Blue Waters, now placed eighth with 13 points, is the only team in the previous soccer seasons which has given Civics FC a run for their money in the final race of the elite league title race. Katutura outfit African Stars, in seventh place with 15 points, has a date with Kinaco Minolta (KM) Eleven Arrows at the coastal town of Walvis Bay. Following their recent MTC/NFA Cup campaign in Otjiwarongo, African Stars need to go an extra mile if they want to upset the in-form KM Eleven Arrows in their own backyard. KM Eleven Arrows, in tenth place with ten points, will surely make use of their home advantage to hammer the visitors from the country’s largest township. The match kicks off 19h30.
