RUNDU – The principal of Ndama Combined School in Rundu, Mukuve Norbert Shiyinga, who is also the pastor of a local church is accused of recommending church members, as well as the children of his church elders and those of some school board members for temporary teaching positions at the school and many are said not to meet the requirements at all.
Sources say this a longstanding practice at the school. In the past he used to employ and recommend only people from his village and those close to him it is further alleged. According to complaints from the community, he has now appointed more than six members of his church as temporary teachers, despite the fact most of them do not meet the requirements.
The temporary teachers will be paid from funds allocated under the universal primary education initiative of the government. The community also alleges that he has promoted some of the temporary teachers, who are also the most active members of the church, as heads of departments (HoDs). Other recipients of his generosity include children of some school board members, according to a source, who claims that the principal’s decisions cannot be questioned by anyone.
When a New Era journalist in Windhoek phoned the principal for comment this week he said he would only respond if the journalist presents himself in person at the school and cut off the call while the journalist was still on the phone with him.
