The Pottery Association of Namibia (PAN) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with various artistic exhibitions and festivals over the next few months, it was announced in a press release from the organization. – Theme Exhibition: “Celebration” opens at the Omba Gallery, 18h00 on Friday 24th August and ends on Sunday 9th September ’07. (NB: This exhibition is a members-only event) – Book launch: a “History of P.A.N.’s 20 years” documentary booklet at the opening of “Celebrations” on 24th August – Retrospective Exhibition: “Doreen Hildenhagen – P.A.N.’s First Chairlady” opens at Studio 77 at 11:00 morning of 25th August. Speech by Sarie Maritz. Exhibition ends 9th Sept. – CLAY FEST: In Old Breweries courtyard behind Craft Centre – Sat 25th August from 10:00 to 17:00: “Clay Olympics” and demonstrations by potters; Pottery stalls selling work made by members; and various activities involving public in clay projects, etc., TBA. – Sun 26th August: 10:30 to 12:00 “Ceramic City London ” Presentation in Studio 77 by UK guest potter Scott Hurd 14:00 – Glazing of Raku Tea Bowls 16:00 – Preparation & set-up for “Raku firing Spectacular” to take place after sunset (Sake and Grappa and fired bowls will be offered for sale) – Monday 27th August: 09:00 – 12:00 Participating Workshop: “Saggar Firing” at COTA Ceramic Studio, presented by Botswana guest potters Geraldine Hester & Angelika Orford. 09:00 to 11:00 at Old Breweries Courtyard 11:00 to 13:00 – Bisque Painting for All 14:30 to 16:00 – Demonstration: “Template Throwing: by Jacques J van Vuuren – Tuesday 28th August: 10:00 SAGGAR FIRING WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS UNPACK THE KILN & DISCUSS RESULTS, AT COTA STUDIO. – 28th to 31st August: (Evening video shows; discussions, etc. Studio 77) – Saturday 1st Sept. : Demos: “Making, Burnishing, Smoke-firing” by Rolf Albrecht. 14:30 to 16:00″Template Throwing” by Jacques van Vuuren.
