Windhoek

Namibia’s Pro Tennis Academy’s (PTA) Series will return to action on September 18 and 19 at the Windhoek High School tennis courts, marking the sixth of eight tournaments in the series this year.

The PTA Tennis Series is the only series of tournaments in Namibia where participants play according to their skills level and not their age category.

In the midi category, Jamilla Hungamo and Eila Kambonde have their sights set on the division win. Currently, Hungamo sits in pole position with 2600 points, but her lead could quickly crumble as Kambonde sits in second with a mere 2000 points behind the log- leader. The two are expected to contest the tournament win again next weekend.

The beginners division is currently led by Faith Kahuure with 3400 points. Another good result would surely put her beyond the reach of her pursuers, Delicia Dirkse at 2400 points and Megano Sheeya at 2300 points.

The pair needs to step up their game to close the gap, while keeping a close eye on each other as only 100 points separate them going into the sixth tournament.

Meanwhile, Mike Kambonde sits firmly at the top of the intermediate division with 2500 points. However, he needs to be on his toes as Lorenzo Kotze is in hot pursuit at 2000 points after a string of great results recently.

Cleet Farmer is the player to beat in the advanced category. His total points of 2700 make him the favourite to be crowned champion at the end of the year, albeit Brandon Maasdorp at 2000 points, and Godwin Husselmann at 1800 points, could very well still catch up to him.
