The national Futsal league will continue this weekend with a number of exciting games slated for Windhoek Showground on Saturday.
One of the highlight matches of the weekend will be a clash between second-placed Quality FC and The Mavericks, scheduled for 20h00.
The Mavericks currently sit 10th with 17 points from 17 matches played so far this league season. Quality FC are strong contenders for victory, having consistently shown their prowess throughout the season, amassing a total of 47 points from 18 games, just three points behind log leaders Chile FC, who top the summit with 50 points.
According to Eduardo Solunga, the captain at Quality FC, their match on Saturday is crucial, as they need to secure maximum points to keep their title chase firmly on track.
“We understand what is expected of us this weekend, which is to collect maximum points against a strong opponent whom we respect. But on our end, we approach it as if it’s a final match, and we must ensure we don’t fall behind,” he stated.
In terms of preparations, Solunga mentioned that training has gone well, although they will be without some key players for the upcoming match.
“We had two days to rest after our previous match, giving us enough recovery time. This has put us in good shape ahead of Saturday’s encounter. We are facing a minor challenge as our team captain is ruled out for this match,”
Despite the setback, he remained upbeat. “I mean, it’s football; we can’t do anything right now but ensure those available for Saturday’s encounter rise to the occasion,” he said.
In other games on Saturday, log leaders Chile FC will take on 14th-placed 7 Kings in another exciting fixture set to start at 14h00. At 15h00, JAC FC will take to the courts to square off against Ballers, who are placed fourth on the standings.
Ragazzi FC will hope to register a decisive win when they play against Boston Madrid at 16h00. X-Men, who occupy sixth on the standing with a total of 29 points, will face off against Demia, positioned 11th with 15 points. Their match is set to start at 17h00.
Windhoek Futsal will play against INEOS, who are placed 13th on the standing, in a tie expected to get underway at 18h00. This will be followed by a match between WIAS FC and Patriots at 19h00.
Greyeno Rusberg, Futsal Namibia’s communication manager, urged fans to attend in large numbers and witness great Futsal league action. “I am happy with how the league is intensifying as we are drawing closer to the final games. Every team is prepared, and no team wants to lose a match, which is making it incredibly competitive,” he added.
