ONGWEDIVA – Oshana Police Regional Commander Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa said safety in the region will not be compromised and police are ready for the festive season.
According to Kashihakumwa the police have put measures in place to prevent and combat any manifestation of crime in the region, including the recent trend where criminals are targeting business people.
He said the police have already put some of the ringleaders behind bars and said the days are numbered for criminals that have been terrorising the region by targeting business people of late.
The regional commander said numerous armed robberies were committed in the region over a short period of time, including two incidents in which two business people sustained life-threatening injuries.
One of the victims was shot twice in the chest, while the other one was shot in the head. They are both fighting for their lives in the Ongwediva Medipark. The latest incident took place in Uupindi location in Oshakati when a cattle trader was robbed of N$300 000. So far one suspect has been identified, who goes by the name Kamati Hangula. He was arrested shortly following the robbery. Police could however only recover N$48 000 from Hangula, while two other suspects got away with the rest of the money. Kashihakumwa said the arrest of Kamati and about six other suspects, who were all arrested in a matter of two months for various crimes committed in the region, is a sure sign of the resolve of the police. “By arresting these criminals we managed to break the cycle and we are not going to leave a stone unturned to apprehend the others. In fact, its is better for the remaining criminals to surrender to the police,” he said. He said police are already mounting regular operations and patrols in the region to ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens.
