There are so many things around that will enable one to enjoy and celebrate what this world can offer. To my surprise, it seems few people realize that. It is rare especially nowadays to find someone who will tell you that life is treating them nawa. Usually, when you meet someone and ask how they are doing, the answer !Na, is used just to let things go. All we hear is so…so, we are surviving (the fact that you can see me), and others cannot even talk but just use hand gestures comme ci, comme ÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚§a. Other than that, we complain about almost everything. I have no doubt that if a generation of those between the ages of 18 and 35 was to be placed in one room and another group between the ages 60 and 80 in another room, the younger generation will surely beat the older generation when it comes to complaints. Does that mean life has become so unbearable that we cannot even look forward to tomorrow, or is there just something that we are missing? In as much as we would deny this, the problem is we have created such a living environment for ourselves. People, especially the youth have visions but little is done to transform them to reality. We are more of dreamers than visionaries and when we fail ourselves, we complain. Is it not just fair that we re-consider the old adage that we are masters of our own destinies? Were we not taught to laugh at our past disappointments and rather use them to motivate ourselves into the future? We would want to live large and have dreams but how many of us make an effort in terms of working hard to achieve that? Trust me, we are chronologically adults but babies in behaviour and action. We have developed a complex – we are emotionally stunted and have refused to grow. We waste time on issues that add less value to our lives. We feed on “unnecessary meals” and if only we could have a timekeeper to remind us how much time we waste on unnecessary stuff, we would curse ourselves. What then makes the generation of today any different if we are descendants of courageous, inspired, hard working and motivated mothers and fathers? That is for you to answer… If people were to leave their dwellings with the vigour of one going to fight a good war, we would have smiling faces everywhere because then we would know what we want. The current long faces all over are a sign of nothing but confusion. Let us not rush and take one day at a time. In as much as we are interdependent, there is need to also focus on self-mastery, i.e. achieving the private victories required to move to independence and we can only do that if we learn to be patient and hard working. We should not be like some farmer whose goose began laying a solid gold egg every day, and then he soon became rich. Like many of us, he became greedy and figured that the goose must have many golden eggs within her. In order to obtain all of the eggs immediately, he killed the goose. Upon cutting it open he discovered that it was not full of golden eggs. The lesson is there are no short cuts if you really want to achieve something that will fulfil your dreams and put your mind to rest. Stop complaining and work for what you want in life. Eewa!
