The fact that radio is one of the oldest and yet still biggest media tools worldwide aim to inform, educate and entertain the public, local and popular radio presenter, Edwin Samule, also known as ‘Eddy on Air’ says despite having been in the industry for almost seven years as a radio personality, this has given him life.
Eddy, who is currently working at Base Fm in Katutura, says he has grown a passion for radio ever since he was young.
Many have heard him by hosting two radio programmes during weekends, The Saturday Kick Off, which airs from seven in the morning until ten (07h00 – 10h00) and The Sunday Slow Jams session on Sundays from nine O’clock in the morning until twelve (09h00 – 12h00).
“On my Saturday shows, I usually run a segment called ‘Your Community Outlook’ that focuses on giving an insightful look at individuals that have made remarkable strides through their painful and difficult journey,” explained Eddy.
He adds that, on this programme, the young at hearts share their stories to inform, educate and inspire while at the same time remind us that there is no tough time that lasts but being a tough person.
The 25 years old presenter says he rejoined Base Fm earlier this year when he heard about the reshuffling at the station. “As a current presenter I feel very honoured to be working for a station that not only values its listeners but also has brought me closer to the community itself,” he says.
Eddy was born and bred in the capital city of Namibia, Windhoek. He attended his primary school at one of Katutura’s academically well-known as Mandume Primary School and went to Khomas High School, before he relocates to Otjiwarongo and matriculated in 2009.
In 2010, he came back to Windhoek to further his studies and enrolled at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), through the bachelor’s degree in Communications.
“During my studies at NUST I applied for my first Job at Fresh Fm radio station and started working as a freelance radio presenter. I have always been a very loud and vocal individual and felt my potential definitely lies in the media and communications world,” he says.
According to him, things started going wrongly when he mixes work and school. “I then started lacking in my school work and had to give up one and left Fresh Fm,” he says.
In the 2012, he returned to Fresh Fm, not only as a presenter but also as the station Social Media and Website Manager.
Later that year Eddy left his job again and got an offer at a firm that basically had nothing to do with radio or the media in general. Late 2014 he went to Energy100 Fm and did the breakfast show for two months and later on had to leave again.
