A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Saturday at Mushashani village near Divundu in Kavango East.
The woman, whose identity is known to this newspaper, was raped at an unknown time on Saturday night while on her way home.
It is alleged the suspect, whose identity is also known but cannot be published as he still has to appear in court, followed the victim from Ndeyapo shebeen, then grabbed and dragged her into bushes where he brutally raped her.
“Both the suspect and victim are San speaking and are residents of Mushashani village near Mukwe,” said Detective Chief Inspector Ewald Kavara of the Kavango East police.
Kavara urged women not to walk alone at night especially after drinking as they are more at risk when it is dark and makes them more vulnerable to sex predators. In the same vein he warned men who rape women that the long arm of the law would get them whereever they are.
“The suspect was arrested and was expected to appear in the Rundu court today while investigations continue,” Kavara said.
