The appeal by Swapo Party branches to all members, supporters and sympathisers of the new party, Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), who are still in the Swapo Party to leave Swapo, seems to have intensified.
Recently, the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) in particular condemned those who are currently seeking refuge in the Swapo Party but waiting for the opportunity to join the “already discredited and foreign-funded” RDP.
Yesterday, Swapo insiders at the congress were still convinced that some moles were in attendance.
“They are here, but we know who they are and we are watching them,” said a party insider yesterday.
“It seems that the RDP is paying them very well to spy on Swapo.”
During the opening ceremony, the conference hall of Safari Hotel was loud from the singing of songs in praise of both the Swapo Party President Sam Nujoma and his Deputy President Hifikepunye Pohamba, that even Pohamba had to acknowledge how deeply moved he was by the singing.
“I am deeply moved by the songs. They remind me of the struggle and sometimes I wonder about those who want to get out of it.
“You started it and almost at the end of your life, you want to cut yourself out,” said Pohamba.
Sharing the same sentiments, the Secretary General of Swapo, Dr Ngarikutuke Tjiriange, assured the congress: “Don’t get worried about those who are running away from this thing (Swapo), soon the fuel would finish. Where they are running, there are no filling stations.”
He said RDP also does not have a programme of its own.
“The only difference between them and Swapo is when Swapo says let’s move forward, they say no, there is no democracy in Swapo, let’s walk forward.”
