WINDHOEK – Namibia’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Lightweight champion Paulus ‘Hitman’ Moses promised his fans nothing but titles this year as he revealed his aspiration to reclaim his former world champion status.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital yesterday an upbeat Hitman said he was once a world champion and knows what it takes to be on top of the boxing food chain. He says his mission is to move within touching distance of the lightweight world title. The former world champion is set to confront Cristian Rafael Coria of Argentina when he defends his WBO International Lightweight title at the Dinero Shopping Complex in the Outapi on March 1. “This will be a year of world titles for Namibian boxers, not just me, and I promise all my fans in Outapi to expect nothing but fireworks. I have trained hard and I am ready to put up a good show, because my focus right now is on the world title,” said Hitman who further urged all boxing lovers to come in numbers to support the event.
Also featuring on the card on that night will be Juluis ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo, who defends his WBO Africa Junior Welterweight title against Joel Mwelwa of Zambia over 12-rounds of what promises to be a rousing clash, while Martin Haikali’s opponent is yet to be announced with the rest of the undercards set to feature in the ‘Champs in Outapi’ boxing bonanza.
‘Redemption of the Rock’
As has become customary, upon conclusion of the Outapi boxing bonanza, the Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy will embark on a journey back to Windhoek where they will be part of the country’s independence celebrations, when they host the much anticipated ‘Redemption of the Rock’ boxing bonanza at the Ramatex Hall on March 20. Topping the bill on that night will be the former Bantamweight world champion Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda, who takes on Nestor Hugo Paniagua of Argentina in a WBO Bantamweight world rating bout over 12-rounds. In the co-main bout of the event will be Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona who squares off against Carlos Herrera also from Argentina in an International Welterweight bout over 10-rounds.
Tyson will have to settle for nothing but a win against Herrera, because he is currently rated second in the world by the WBO and a possible victory over the Argentinean will move him even close to the world title. Immanuel ‘Prince’ Naidjala will also be in action, but his opponent is yet to be announced with the rest of the boxers featuring on the card on that night.
