Existing ties between Namibia and Ghana must impact the lives of ordinary citizens of both countries positively, international relations executive director Penda Naanda has said.

Naanda made these remarks during the Namibia-Ghana Permanent Joint Commission of Cooperation (PJCC) held last week in Swakopmund.

He emphasised that deliberations must be conducted meaningfully on issues of mutual interest, thus producing concrete but realistic outcomes that will bring about significant improvement in the lives of the people.

“Bilateral cooperation, trade, and investments need to be tangible to match the status of our political relations; as such, the fifth session affords many opportunities to increase the momentum generated,” the ED said.

Moreover, Naanda stated that deliverables must be formulated to effect socio-economic development in the two countries; thus, the signed agreements provide a roadmap for strengthening cooperation in the identified sectors.

“Furthermore, the significance of the commission lies not in the number of agreements concluded but in their timely implementation to influence the lives and livelihoods of our people, and that should be its primary focus.”

Naanda noted that bilateral relations between Ghana and Namibia are excellent and will continue to grow.

He emphasised that the joint efforts to promote economic growth and sustainable development between the two countries should enjoy priority.

Therefore, “innovative measures must be enhanced to effectively connect the two private sectors to take advantage of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.”
