Reports a ‘Distortion’ – Swapo

Home Archived Reports a ‘Distortion’ – Swapo

By Staff Reporter Windhoek The Swapo Party has distanced itself from reports in two English dailies on the discussions of a politburo meeting which took place last week Friday. In a media release issued by the office of the secretary general yesterday, the Swapo Party says it has not issued or given information to any one, including the media, on the outcome of the discussions of the politburo. The statement says that the reports in the said newspapers do not reflect what was actually discussed in the politburo meeting and were thus a distortion of the facts of the meeting. “Most importantly the discussions of the meeting of the political bureau cannot be disclosed to the public before they are reported to the Central Committee.” Although the Swapo Party singled out the New Era and The Namibian newspapers, a similar report also appeared in the Afrikaans daily Die Republikein. The reports in the three newspapers basically stated that the political bureau proposed that Hage Geingob and Doreen Sioka be appointed members of the politburo. The reports further claimed that the congress date for Swapo Party had been set from 30 November to 1 December but that this would be confirmed by the Central Committee.
