ONGWEDIVA – A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly stabbing retired police chief inspector Peter Nepunda with a spear at his farming plot in Omatako, in the Tsumkwe area.

According to the police crime report, Nepunda was fixing the fence at the plot where he lives with his three workers when they heard voices of people speaking close to where they were working.

He then sent his workers to go inspect what those people were doing in his camp.

“The workers went and only found an elderly male who was later identified as the father of the accused, and brought him to Nepunda. At that time, the accused was called by his father and as alleged they only saw the accused come running with a bow and arrow from the bushes ready to shoot at any person but he was neutralised and the deceased took away the bow and arrow from the accused,” reads the statement.

It is reported that both Nepunda and the accused had communication difficulties due to a language barrier.

“Whilst trying to talk, they just saw the accused again removing a small axe from his waist wanting to assault the deceased but it was taken away again from him by Nepunda. They all were in close proximity to each other and at that moment, the accused grabbed the metal spear which was in the hands of his father and stabbed the deceased in the middle of the chest,” according to the report.

Nepunda died on the spot and his body was transported to the Grootfontein mortuary. His relatives have been informed of his death. The reason why the altercation happened has not yet been determined.

Nepunda was a police commander of the explosion control sub-unit in the Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa regions.

In another incident, a grade eight learner at the Donatus Senior Secondary School in Otjiwarongo died instantly on Thursday after he was allegedly stabbed in the neck.
The incident occurred in the Eie Risiko informal settlement, the Namibian Police’s Otjozondjupa crime investigations coordinator, Naukalemo Andreas, told Nampa in an interview Friday.
Andreas said the deceased has been identified by relatives as 16-year-old Wesley Dai-Khib.
Dai-Khib was allegedly stabbed once with a kitchen knife in a quarrel with a 20-year-old woman, who is now the suspect.
“He died inside the suspect’s house, and a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in his stabbing was found in the same house,” said Andreas.
The suspect on Friday was detained and is expected to be charged on a single count of murder, she added.
