Local financial giants FNB Namibia handed over a staggering amount of N$200 000 apiece to the trio of rugby giants, Western Suburbs, Wanderers and reigning Namibian rugby champions, Unam.
FNB Namibia renewed its sponsorship agreement with Suburbs and the White Stallions last year for further three years and now has added the students to the list of beneficiaries for the same time period.
At the official handover ceremony, corporate social investment manager of FNB Group Revonia Kahivere said: “We’re excited about the growth in the sport of rugby locally. As you are aware, FNB Namibia supports different sports codes across Namibia and rugby has always been part and parcel of the sporting disciplines that we wholeheartedly assist.”
Kahivere, spouse of former African Stars football club striker Dennis, added that while for some people rugby might be just a game, it is actually much more than that. “Rugby is full of life lessons, as it can teach you about failure, joy, disappointment, excitement, and above all, to experience the joy of winning and the agony of losing.”
The three clubs campaigning in the highly competitive Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League will be known as FNB Unam, FNB Wanderers and FNB Western Suburbs. In conclusion, Kahivere wished all the clubs a season filled with success and expressed the hope that the sponsorship by FNB Namibia would take them closer to their goals.
