Rugby semi-finals promises grappling action

Home Featured Rugby semi-finals promises grappling action

WINDHOEK – This coming weekend’s eagerly awaited Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League semi-final clashes between rivals Western Suburbs and Rehoboth, United against Wanderers promises to deliver exhilarating action.

After trotting easily past Kudus via a 49-12 resounding victory to book themselves a place in the semi-finals, Rehoboth will challenge the tough and redoubtable Suburbs for a place in the final of the country’s flagship rugby league, at the Hage Geingob Stadium on 13 September in Windhoek.

With Suburbs having demonstrated incredible consistency and great coordination in most departments of their game during the season, it would be expected of them to keep to the prow of the course, if they are to retain the coveted league title.

But it will be a huge challenge for the battle-hardened khomasdal-based, outfit, as they would be facing a more physical and highly motivated Rehoboth side. The physical style of Rehoboth and their attacking game will sure come in handy against Suburbs, a side which is very good at ball-handling and also strong in launching quick attacks, mostly from their flanks.

Rehoboth and Suburbs, will both go into this clash with their heads held high after impressive start to their league campaign, as matches between these two rugby giants never fail to buck up and galvanise the supporters.

In the second semi-final clash, Wanderers will confront the whimsical United Rugby Club in what promises to be another heated affair between the two outfits. However, Wanderers, who have been in fantastic shape in their last few outings, can expect a hostile reception from the equally determined United who are still fresh from their 39-26 semi-final playoffs victory over Reho Falcon.

All in all, it will be a gripping clash, as Wanderers would be gunning for maximum points in a bid to resuscitate their ailing fortunes and once again to demonstrate their supremacy in domestic rugby, while the same kind of tenacity can also be expected from United.
